"account": "FIFA president Gianni Infantino received an undisclosed $1.72 million payment in 2024 from the entity responsible for organizing the 2026 World Cup, according to IRS documents. The payment may violate FIFA's statutes, though the organization denies any wrongdoing. FIFA incorporated FWC2026, the nonprofit entity that would run the 2026 World Cup, in 2021. Infantino's compensation from FWC2026 is required to be public, as stipulated by Article 43, paragraph 13 of FIFA's statutes. The Times was the first to report on Infantino's additional compensation from FWC2026 in 2025 and 2026. Former FIFA governance committee chairman Miguel Maduro criticized FIFA for not making Infantino's additional salary public, calling it a clear violation of the rules. FIFA has dismissed the claims, stating that the president's annual compensation and other benefits are decided by the independent Compensation Sub-Committee and comply with all reporting requirements.",
