"summary": "Apple has officially unveiled the HomeView smart display, a 7-inch square device intended to serve as a smart home hub. According to 9to5Mac, the device is available in two versions for $299: one with a speaker base and one designed for wall mounting. Techmeme reports that both versions are priced the same and pre-orders are currently live, with customer deliveries beginning on November 13.\n\nThe HomeView features a screen with multiple customizable \"faces\" similar to an Apple Watch, which can display clocks, weather updates, photos, or animations. Techmeme notes that users can swipe up to reach a home screen containing apps and widgets. Tom's Guide reports that the device will launch without access to the App Store, instead functioning as a control center for third-party accessories through the Home app or Siri voice commands.\n\nThe announcement was made during an event in New York City as part of a broader effort to revitalize Apple's smart home ecosystem. Techmeme states the display arrives alongside several other new smart home devices. Tom's Guide further reports that Apple has reportedly made deals with manufacturers like LG to ensure devices such as security cameras and thermostats work seamlessly with the new system.",
