"account": "A 48-year-old business owner, Hoh Peng Onn, was sentenced to six months in jail by a magistrates' court in Petaling Jaya for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Liaw Ju Shuang, 28, in an apartment in Seri Kembangan on October 5, 2024. Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal found Hoh guilty of assault under Section 323 of the Penal Code. The court ordered him to pay RM5,000 in damages, which he must fulfill by today's date or face an additional two months in prison. Hoh's lawyer, Cheow Wee, indicated that he would appeal the sentence to the High Court. The victim sought assistance from a neighbor, who noticed fresh injuries on her body and reported the incident to the police. A doctor from Serdang Hospital confirmed the victim's injuries. The court dismissed Hoh's claim that the assault was a misunderstanding or provoked by the victim.",
