"account": "Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has revealed his collaboration with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 Edo State governorship election. Wike stated that the alliance aimed to prevent former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki from producing his successor, despite Obaseki being a PDP member and Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, having strong credentials. Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting of the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party political platform associated with Wike's efforts to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, Wike emphasized that the coalition between APC and PDP was crucial to defeating Obaseki. The APC candidate, Okpebholo, won the election with 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo received 247,274 votes, and the Labour Party's Akpata came third with 22,763 votes. Wike expressed no regret over his decision, attributing it to the desire to stop Obaseki from retaining political influence through his successor.",
