"summary": "The European Union has launched a support mission for the Lebanese army, named the European Union Support Mission in Lebanon (EUSM Lebanon), which will operate with an initial mandate of three years. The mission aims to strengthen the capacities of the Lebanese army and Internal Security Forces, as well as support maritime security governance. This comes as the UN Interim Force withdraws from Lebanon starting December 31, marking a major update to European security ties with the country. The EUSM Lebanon will coordinate closely with the UN and other international partners supporting Lebanon's security sector, and will include training for the army in areas such as land border surveillance, counter-smuggling, and operational coordination. The mission is seen as a crucial step in maintaining European investment in Lebanon's future and supporting the country's institutions in restoring full sovereignty and building lasting stability for the Lebanese people.",
