"account": "Nairobi, Kenya - Governor Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi has been elected chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG), replacing Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi who completed his two-year term. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka was chosen as the deputy chairperson, while Benjamin Cheboi of Baringo retained his whip position. The elections took place at the CoG's full council meeting at the Mövenpick Hotel in Nairobi on Monday, concluding a succession process within the council's leadership. Njuki's election marks his ascent to the top position, where he will coordinate governors' positions on devolution, county financing, and service delivery. Lusaka will serve as the deputy chairperson, and Cheboi's continued role as whip ensures stability in the council's executive leadership. The new leadership will oversee the council's technical committees that address key sectors such as health, agriculture, finance, education, infrastructure, and security, as well as sectoral committees that facilitate communication among governors and engagement with national agencies on county-related matters.",
