"account": "Jeju, South Korea - Police apprehended a man in his 60s on Monday for allegedly murdering a woman under police protection, officials announced. The incident occurred outside a hotel on the southern resort island of Jeju at 1:38 a.m. local time on Monday. The suspect was taken into emergency custody shortly after the fatal stabbing, which police believe was committed by the man allegedly motivated by stalking and dating violence. During questioning, the suspect claimed the victim was a former lover. The victim, a woman in her 40s, had previously filed multiple reports of dating violence against the man, with the most recent report made in May. The victim had also reported the man for stalking in October 2025. Police had issued the woman a smart watch to alert authorities of emergencies and registered her as a subject of protection. However, the woman was unable to use the device during the fatal attack as it was not operational at the time. Despite these protective measures, the man was not placed under a restraining order as formal cases had not been officially filed during the previous reports. Police plan to seek a warrant for the suspect's formal arrest following further investigation.",
