"summary": "Sri Lanka has decided to prioritize its \"national interests\" over providing assistance to 19 Iranian ships that are currently stranded in international waters near the island nation. The crews of these vessels are facing critical shortages of food, water, and fuel. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Thushara Rodrigo cited the risk of US sanctions against Sri Lankan companies supplying the ships as a key concern. Rodrigo emphasized that Sri Lanka will only consider assistance to the vessels if it does not violate US sanctions, but ruled out any immediate aid. The situation comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran, which have been at war since February 28 following joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran. The Iranian Embassy has not provided any information on the matter.",
