"account": "Navi Pillay, this year's recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, has vehemently condemned the US sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC). In an interview via video link from Nuremberg, the 85-year-old South African lawyer described the sanctions as \"unheard of\" and \"unacceptable\". Pillay expressed deep worry over the growing tension and anxiety surrounding the future of international courts, particularly the ICC in The Hague. She also lamented that hundreds of ICC staff feel they are under threat. The sanctions, announced by the US, target the court's judges for issuing judicial orders, an unprecedented move. This move was condemned by both the US and its ally Israel, who saw it as legitimizing anti-Israel sentiment.",
"summary": "Hours after Navi Pillay was named the laureate, the US announced new sanctions against the ICC, provoking swift condemnation from member states and the UN.",
