"account": "The New York Liberty's 2026 season can be described as a \"missed opportunity.\" The team reached the WNBA semifinals but ultimately lost, signaling an uncertain future for the franchise. Veteran two-time MVP Breanna Stewart described the team's performance as \"the exact way\" she felt about their season, admitting it was \"really hard to win a WNBA championship\" after losing three consecutive games to the Atlanta Dream.\n\nThe Liberty's lack of identity and chemistry seemed to be a major issue for the team. Head coach Chris DeMarco faced criticism for his handling of the team, particularly after his failure to show emotion during a crucial timeout in Game 2. Stewart, Ionescu, and Jones, the team's big three, spoke out and emphasized that their decision on DeMarco's future was not theirs to make. The team struggled with defensive assignments and offensive consistency throughout the season, with 15 different starting lineups in the regular season alone.\n\nThe Liberty's roster consisted of only the four starters from their 2023 and 2024 championship teams, highlighting the challenges of retaining talent in a league with increasing salaries and expansion. Despite acknowledging the team's potential, Stewart expressed confidence in their abilities, stating, \"At the same time, with the expansion, with the increased salaries and stuff like that, it’s hard to keep a good team together because people are gonna go get paid.\" The Liberty will now face decisions regarding their coaching and roster as they look to build a championship contender in a competitive league.",
