"account": "President Donald Trump has requested the US Supreme Court to reconsider a lawsuit he lost against his 2016 Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. Trump accused Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey, and others of conspiring to rig the 2016 election by linking his campaign to Russia. After a federal judge dismissed the case and imposed nearly US$1 million in sanctions, Trump filed an appeal. The case had previously been ruled frivolous and had resulted in sanctions against Trump and his attorney due to its perceived attempt to dishonestly advance a political narrative. The ruling was upheld by a US appeals court in 2025. Trump has consistently claimed that the 2016 election was rigged and has made false accusations of widespread voting fraud in previous elections. Despite losing the popular vote in the 2016 election, Trump served as the president from 2017 to 2021.",
