"account": "Two days after Mike Flanagan's \"Carrie\" premiered on Prime Video, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse unveiled a trailer for Flanagan's forthcoming film, \"The Exorcist: Martyrs.\" The trailer debuted online following screenings of \"Other Mommy\" and its initial appearance at New York Comic-Con. The eerie new visuals feature Scarlett Johansson as New York City detective Julie Miller, celebrated for apprehending the satanic serial killer, Father Sunday. Thirteen years later, Miller (now a mother to Max, portrayed by \"Hamnet's\" Jacobi Jupe) discovers her name inscribed in an altar boy's blood, marking the beginning of a chilling new investigation. With the help of ex-prison chaplain Father William (Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor), who heard Father Sunday's final confession, and clever rookie detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle, \"The Rip\"), Miller will unearth a connection between a lineage of serial killers, from H.H. Holmes to the Zodiac, that may corrupt everything and everyone she holds dear with an evil force surpassing mortal understanding. You can view the ominous trailer below. Flanagan has established a reputation as a contemporary master of horror, particularly in horror adaptations, having helmed numerous high-profile projects based on the works of Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, and more. He also crafted the original screenplay for the upcoming \"Clayface\" film, the first horror installment in the new DC universe. However, \"The Exorcist: Martyrs\" — Flanagan's initial venture into the universe sparked by William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel and transformed into a movie by William Friedkin and Blatty's 1973 adaptation — appears to adopt a somewhat different tone compared to the filmmaker's previous horror endeavors. The trailer is foreboding, tense, and exceedingly frightening, aiming to inject fresh vitality into this enduring franchise. David Gordon Green previously sought to revamp the \"Exorcist\" series with 2023's \"The Exorcist: Believer,\" which he co-wrote alongside Peter Sattler. While that film was intended to kick off a new trilogy, the sequel, \"The Exorcist: Deceiver,\" was removed from the project after Green's departure. \"The Exorcist: Martyrs\" is set to release in theaters on March 12, 2027.",
