"account": "A British Columbia woman, Kimberly Polman, has pleaded guilty to one count of leaving Canada to join the Islamic State (ISIS), according to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. The 31-year-old mother of three, who resides in Squamish, was captured by U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters in Syria in 2019 and returned to Canada in 2022. Polman was among numerous Canadian women who traveled to ISIS-controlled territory when the group controlled parts of Syria. The RCMP alleged that Polman was committed to the group, having been a member of their all-female battalion, Nusaybah Katibah, which provided weapons training to women. Despite Polman's claims of naivety, the RCMP maintain that she was involved with ISIS. A sentencing hearing has not yet been set.",
