"account": "Ottawa Senators forward William Eklund will miss an \"extended\" period due to an ankle injury, head coach Travis Green announced on Friday. The incident occurred during Ottawa's 2-1 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday, after Eklund sustained a hit from defenceman Simon Benoit. Eklund, who is 23 years old and from Sweden, has contributed a goal and an assist in four games this season. Green provided no specific timeline for Eklund's return. The loss of a key top-six forward is a significant setback for the Senators, who are currently on a 3-1-0 start and are among the leaders in the competitive Atlantic Division. The Senators acquired Eklund in June, trading the ninth pick in the 2026 NHL draft to San Jose. The team returns to action on Saturday against the Nashville Predators. This report was originally published by The Canadian Press on October 9, 2026.",
