"account": "In a historic decision, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded to Judge Navanethem Navi Pillay. The 85-year-old South African-born former UN human rights chief received the prestigious honor for her significant contributions to international law and promotion of peace. Ms. Pillay served as a judge for the International Criminal Court, the High Court of South Africa, and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. The committee noted that her work serves as inspiration for those striving towards a more peaceful world, especially during a time of increasing global conflicts and political attacks on international law institutions. A spokesperson for the committee stated that they had not yet contacted Ms. Pillay to inform her of her award. The committee emphasized the importance of an international legal system that holds war criminals accountable and ensures justice for abuse victims as a prerequisite for global peace. This year, the Nobel Committee received nominations for 287 candidates, typically selecting those who promote peace, international understanding, and institutional strength. Last year's peace prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her efforts in achieving democracy in South America.",
