"summary": "The South African government has withdrawn an order on the processing of asylum applications following violent clashes between protesters and foreign nationals in Durban and Johannesburg's Soweto. The order, which came after a Constitutional Court ruling on procedural barriers to asylum seekers, led to widespread protests and the looting of foreign-run stores. The Home Affairs Department said the directive overwhelmed its offices and posed serious threats to public safety, prompting the withdrawal of the order and a new process. The country, known for periodic outbreaks of xenophobic violence, has seen a surge in complaints about illegal immigration ahead of local government elections on November 4, with unemployment above 30%.",
