"summary": "US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that the execution of Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, will be made public. According to the Pentagon, the firing squad execution will be livestreamed, with one official stating that \"details will follow\".\n\nHasan, a former army psychiatrist, is set to be executed on December 3 at the same Texas base where he committed the shooting. This will be the first military execution in more than 60 years and the first firing squad execution by the US military since 1945.\n\nThe decision to livestream the execution is considered \"unprecedented in the modern era\" and \"on uncertain legal terrain\", according to lawyer John Mills. Hegseth stated that \"people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things\" and that Hasan will be executed by a firing squad of soldiers.",
