"account": "The US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, announced that the execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will be a public event, streamed live for the public to view. Speaking aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, Hegseth stated that Hasan will be executed by a firing squad of soldiers, as it is the appropriate punishment for such an act. He emphasized that people need to understand that there are serious consequences for such actions.\n\nThe Pentagon confirmed that President Donald Trump had approved Hasan's execution for the tragic shooting that claimed 13 lives and wounded 30 others at the military base in 2009. Twelve of the victims were soldiers. Hasan was initially shot and partially paralyzed by a civilian police officer who responded to the attack. He received a death sentence in 2013 after being found guilty of the Al-Qaeda-inspired attack. The court heard that Hasan opposed the US military's presence in Iraq and Afghanistan and had communicated online with the radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was later killed in a US drone strike in Yemen.\n\nThis execution will mark the first time the US military carries out an execution since 1961.",
