"account": "The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to temporarily close the runway at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, for 25 days starting October 20, 2026. This decision comes after the authority identified deteriorated sections of the runway, including potholes and extensive surface cracking, which have worsened due to recent heavy rainfall. The closure, subject to final confirmation, will involve repairs such as pavement repairs, crack treatment, and resurfacing to restore the runway to a safe operational condition. Additionally, the proposed works include extending the runway to accommodate wider aircraft as passenger traffic increases, particularly during the Christmas season. FAAN has advised travelers to stay in contact with their airlines for updates on flight schedules and alternative arrangements during the closure period. The authority emphasizes its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable airport operations.",
