"summary": "The 2026 Ballon d'Or is shaping up to be a highly competitive race, with former Argentina international Lionel Messi securing a spot among the top three favourites. Messi, who retired from international football after Argentina's 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in a farewell match, now has a 7% chance of winning the prestigious award, according to Polymarket Sports. The Inter Miami forward is trailing behind Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, who leads the race with a 54% chance of winning, and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, who has a 40% chance.
