"account": "The Nigeria Labour Congress has given Nigeria's Federal Government two weeks to cut petrol prices, commence talks on the national minimum wage and implement outstanding agreements with workers. This ultimatum came after a meeting of the NLC's National Executive Council and Central Working Committee at Labour House in Abuja. In a statement, NLC President Joe Ajaero warned that failure to meet their demands could lead to further action. They specifically demanded the price of Premium Motor Spirit be reduced to the level it was when the current wage was signed in 2024. The union also called for the immediate start of negotiations for a new minimum wage, the implementation of a February 2026 agreement with healthcare unions, and action on demands from the Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council. They stressed that these measures are necessary to alleviate the impact of rising living costs. The NLC argued that the current minimum wage has lost value due to the naira's depreciation and the high cost of living.",
