"summary": "The US has imposed fresh sanctions on Iran, targeting individuals, networks, and vessels involved in transporting the country's crude oil, oil products, and petrochemicals. According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctions aim to cut Tehran's funding and increase pressure on the country. The measures cover 17 vessels that reportedly carried millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil, as well as petroleum and petrochemical products, to markets in South and East Asia.\n\nThe Treasury Department said the sanctions effectively neutralize the vast majority of Iran's remaining \"shadow fleet\" network. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the aim was to deprive Tehran of the money it needs to \"wage war in the region\". The sanctions also target the companies that own the vessels, accusing them of operating in Iran's petroleum and petrochemical sectors.\n\nThe US Treasury Department described the sanctioned vessels as \"the remnants of Iran's shadow fleet of oil tankers\". The sanctions are part of the department's efforts to economically pressure Tehran, as reported by Al-Monitor and Middle East Eye.",
