"account": "On October 8, Amazon unveiled a range of premium tablets featuring its Alexa+ voice assistant and running on Google's Android operating system. This marks a shift from the budget-focused devices the company has been known for, as it aims to capitalize on consumer demand for higher-end gadgets. The tablets, known as Alexa Tablets, come in several versions with starting prices ranging from $230 to $550. Despite the higher price tag, the tablets boast aluminum cases, a departure from the plastic used in previous Fire tablets.\n\nThe top-of-the-line Alexa tablet, equipped with 128 gigabytes of memory, costs $550, a significant increase from Amazon's previous top tablet, the Fire HD 10, which sold for over $180. While the new devices are more expensive than Apple's iPad ($450) and Samsung's Galaxy tablet ($550), they offer several advantages, such as access to a wider range of apps and an advanced AI-powered voice assistant.\n\nAmazon's devices chief, Panos Panay, aims to move the company's tablet offerings upmarket, away from the low-cost gadgets that have been popular in recent years. This shift comes with some compromises, as the new tablets often have lower screen quality and battery life compared to competitors like Apple and Samsung. The emphasis on Alexa+ will help differentiate these tablets from others on the market.\n\nWhile the new tablets represent an upgrade from Amazon's previous Fire OS devices, they will still be supported. However, it remains unclear whether Amazon will continue to maintain the Fire OS operating system or app store. As tablet sales have been declining globally, with a 12% decrease in the second quarter of this year, Amazon's push for premium devices could help it remain competitive in the market.",
