"account": "Canadian poet and writer Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, the prestigious recognition announced on Thursday. The Swedish Academy praised Carson's \"bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.\" The award, which comes with a prize of 12 million Swedish crowns ($1.2m), acknowledges Carson's unique blend of verse, prose, dialogue, and translation. Known for her translations of classical Greek literature, Carson's work includes opera libretti, literary criticism, and verse novels such as \"Autobiography of Red\" (1998). Her latest work, \"Norma Jeane Baker of Troy\" (2019), is a performance piece merging the narratives of Helen of Troy from Euripides' play \"Helen\" and Marilyn Monroe. Carson joins a distinguished group of laureates including Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Alice Munro, and Ernest Hemingway. However, the Nobel Prize in Literature has often been a subject of controversy, facing criticism for overlooking significant authors and sometimes selecting less well-known figures. Despite this, defenders argue that the academy aims to promote lesser-known literary traditions and broaden readers' horizons. The Nobel Prize in Literature, established by the Swedish dynamite inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel, has been awarded annually since 1901, with recipients including Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 1982 and Doris Lessing in 2007. Last year's prize was awarded to Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai.",
