"summary": "Several senior Telangana Congress leaders, including Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, Mohd Azharuddin, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari, were detained by the police on Thursday (October 8, 2026) during a protest march to Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad. They were demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, as part of the INDIA bloc’s 'Save Democracy' campaign. The protest, organized by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and its political associates, including the Communist Party of India (CPI), Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) and other parties, saw Congress activists and supporters of various political parties gathering at the Indira Gandhi statue near Necklace Road. The police deployed barricades to prevent the agitating leaders from reaching Lok Bhavan, leading to a disruption of traffic on the stretch between Khairatabad and Secretariat. The detained Congress leaders later staged a protest at the Panjagutta Police Station, where they raised slogans against the Chief Election Commissioner, calling for his resignation due to the lack of transparency in the Election Commission of India's functioning.",
