"account": "The Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) has decided to keep The Assassin(s) as the opening film at its 37th edition, despite criticism over its portrayal of a real-life 1974 assassination attempt in South Korea. The film, directed by Hur Jin-ho and starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, has come under fire for allegedly distorting historical facts. SGIFF maintains that the film is a creative work, not a historical document, and that its selection is based on artistic merit. The controversy has sparked protests in South Korea, with conservative groups demanding the film's withdrawal. Police have provided Yoo Hae-jin with protective measures due to the threats. The film had already premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to screen at various international festivals. Despite the controversy, SGIFF stands by its decision to showcase the film as the festival's opening title.",
"summary": "The historical thriller, starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, has drawn criticism over its fictionalised portrayal of the 1974 assassination attempt that killed South Korea's first lady. It will screen at SGIFF on Oct 21 and 22.",
