"account": "Nigeria's Vice President Kashim Shettima announced plans to fast-track a National Food and Nutrition Bill at the Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The proposed law aims to strengthen the Federal Government's Nutrition 774 Initiative and foster a compact among federal, state, and local governments to address malnutrition at the community level. Shettima highlighted that 21 states had contributed $6.3m to prevent and treat malnutrition since 2023, and the proposed Presidential Nutrition Investment Fund would provide catalytic financing. The government is also strengthening systems that link public expenditure to measurable nutrition outcomes through scorecards and domestic financing. Nigeria's National Policy on Food and Nutrition 2026-2035 sets targets to reduce the stunting rate from 40% to 25% by 2035. Shettima emphasized the urgency of the reforms, noting that undernutrition costs the economy an estimated $56bn annually. The Vice President also mentioned the establishment of nutrition committees in over 450 local government areas and the strengthening of state councils and delivery capacity at all levels.",
