"account": "NDP Leader David Eby calls for social media companies to be held accountable for monitoring conversations about causing harm after FBI allegations emerged regarding the Tumbler Ridge shooter's online planning. The complaint involves extensive discussions on the Discord platform, which the pair allegedly used to strategize the attack before attempting to livestream it on Twitch. FBI Special Agent in Charge Mike Harrington detailed how Jesse Van Rootselaar met Bryant through the now-defunct Omegle messaging app, where they began conversing about tactics, locations, and weaponry. Van Rootselaar, then a teenager, and Bryant, an adult, communicated via Discord before the attack. Megan Kay, Twitch's senior communications manager, stated that the platform is cooperating with law enforcement but would not disclose further details. Eby asserts that government lawyers must scrutinize the Bryant complaint and establish clear legal obligations for tech companies to report wrongdoing. The B.C. government is currently suing AI firm OpenAI for its alleged role in assisting Van Rootselaar's attack, which claimed eight lives on February 10. Premier Eby emphasized the need for stronger regulations on all social media and AI companies, urging Ottawa to step up and impose minimum regulation. Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd confirmed that Discord complied with the FBI's subpoena and search warrant to provide the chat logs. Federal Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree expressed shock and concern over the allegations, stating that the complaint highlights the urgent need for online safety legislation.",
