"account": "According to a US official, ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores may face new criminal charges in the United States related to the alleged torture of Americans detained in Venezuela. The announcement could be made as early as Thursday, the official stated.\n\nMaduro and Flores were arrested by US military forces from their residences in Caracas on January 3 and transported to New York to face drug trafficking charges. Both have pleaded not guilty.\n\nA spokesperson for the Manhattan US Attorney's office, which filed the charges, has not yet commented on the matter. Maduro's legal representatives have also not provided a response to requests for information.\n\nDetails regarding the new charges, such as the identities of the alleged victims of torture, have not been made public as of yet. The allegations arise from tensions between Venezuela and the United States during Maduro's 13-year rule of the oil-rich nation.\n\nFollowing Maduro's capture, his predecessor as vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, assumed leadership of Venezuela. Since then, the country has seen an increase in cooperation with the Trump administration.",
