"account": "The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and the left-wing populist Union for Social Justice party, which together hold a majority in Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament, have proposed ending military aid to Ukraine and restoring ties with Russia in their first joint resolution. According to Reuters and Deutsche Welle, the resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire, the start of peace talks with Russia, and restoring normal economic relations between Germany and Russia. However, DW and Reuters note that the resolution is likely symbolic, as state governments have no influence over Germany’s foreign policy. The AfD party won the election in Saxony-Anhalt with its best-ever result, securing 43.8% of the vote and 39 out of the 83 seats in the state parliament. They are now in talks with Russia about resuming gas supplies to Germany.",
"summary": "The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and the left-wing populist Union for Social Justice plan to pass their first joint resolution soon, calling for an end to military aid to Ukraine, Reuters and Deutsche Welle reported. Together, the parties hold a majority in Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament following the election.",
