"account": "On Monday, the Pentagon announced that former US Army Major Nidal Hasan will be executed by firing squad, marking the first military execution in over 60 years. The execution is set to take place on December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas. Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 others during a shooting at the base in 2009, claiming it was retaliation for US wars in the Muslim world. The execution recommendation was made by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, approved by President Donald J. Trump. The execution must still undergo appellate review before it can proceed. This marks the first military execution since 1961, when Army Pvt. John Bennett was hanged at Fort Leavenworth. The last firing squad execution in the US occurred in 2011 in South Carolina.",
