"account": "Taiwan's Defence Minister, Wellington Koo, reiterated on Tuesday that the United States' commitment to Taiwan's defence remains unchanged despite the pending $14 billion arms sale package. Koo made the statement in parliament, where he also confirmed that he had not received any information about the US dividing the arms sale into smaller batches. The minister emphasized that Taipei and Washington maintain close military and defence exchanges, which aids Taiwan's self-defense efforts and defense transformation. The US State Department spokesperson reiterated that the Trump administration has consistently stated its enduring commitment to Taiwan, as demonstrated by the $11 billion weapons package approved in December.",
"summary": "Taiwan says US defence support remains unchanged, but a proposed $14 billion arms package awaits Trump’s approval. Washington has reaffirmed its commitment, while Trump has delayed the sale as he seeks closer ties and preserves a trade truce with China.",
