"summary": "California coach Tosh Lupoi made a significant change at halftime during the team's 39-31 loss to UNLV last week, removing offensive coordinator Jordan Somerville from play-calling duties and promoting passing game coordinator Pat McCann to the role. Lupoi explained that he felt it was time for a change, stating that the team had \"sputtered a bit again.\" The Bears, under Lupoi's first-season leadership, have struggled offensively, averaging only 18.3 points per game and 4.4 yards per play in three FBS games before the UNLV matchup. Somerville, despite having no prior offensive coordinator experience, was hired to address this issue, but the change seems to have reignited the team's offensive performance, with the Bears scoring 24 points in the second half after the switch. General manager Ron Rivera praised Lupoi's decision, emphasizing the importance of adapting strategies when faced with persistent challenges. Quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele left the game with a concussion, and his availability for the upcoming game against Virginia Tech remains uncertain, with Jackson Brousseau stepping in to fill his spot if needed.",
