"account": "Former NPP National Chairman candidate, Awentami Paul Afoko, has expressed his backing for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the upcoming 2028 presidential election. In a statement released following the party’s national executive elections, Mr Afoko affirmed his commitment to continue working behind the scenes to support the NPP’s presidential candidate. He urged party members to maintain unity and support the newly elected national executives to advance the party’s efforts towards the 2028 polls. Though he did not secure the national chairmanship position, Mr Afoko attributed the outcome to delegates choosing a different direction, despite his campaign’s focus on the 3Rs - Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture Power. Despite the result, Mr Afoko remains optimistic that the new executive’s vision will aid the party in achieving its political goals in 2028. He expressed gratitude to his campaign team and supporters for their efforts and belief in his message. Mr Afoko plans to meet his campaign team for a debriefing and then visit supporters to thank them personally. He also congratulated all contestants, especially those who won, and praised the Electoral Commission and the NPP’s national election committee for a seamless and incident-free election.",
