"account": "Senior US advisor Massad Boulos met with Sudanese army chief Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan in Egypt, as Washington intensifies efforts to end the country's three-year war. The rare public encounter occurred on the sidelines of the African Union's midyear coordination meeting. Boulos reaffirmed US support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, aiming for a comprehensive dialogue among political forces to establish a roadmap for the future of Sudan. This meeting occurred following the US's refusal to grant a visa to Al Burhan before the UN General Assembly in New York, due to the army-led administration's resistance to a US proposal for a 90-day humanitarian ceasefire and political negotiations. The US has continued to press for a negotiated settlement, working with Egypt and other partners to end the fighting and alleviate the humanitarian crisis, which has resulted in over 14 million people displaced and nearly 20 million facing hunger, according to the UN World Food Programme. The conflict, stemming from a power struggle between the army and the Rapid Support Forces over transitioning to civilian rule, has seen intensified fighting in strategically important Kordofan region, with both sides accused of war crimes and human rights violations by the UN.",
