"summary": "The Pentagon has announced that Nidal Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be executed by firing squad, marking the first execution carried out by the US military since 1961. Hasan was sentenced to death by a military jury in 2013 for the Al-Qaeda inspired mass shooting at the Texas base, which left 13 people dead and more than two dozen wounded. The execution has been approved by President Donald Trump and recommended by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.",
