"account": "New York has declared a disaster emergency due to a measles outbreak, the first such declaration by a U.S. state since cases surged in 2025. Governor Kathy Hochul issued the executive order after 108 measles cases were reported among New York residents this year, with 92 cases since July 15 in under-immunized rural communities across 18 counties. Seven cases were confirmed in New York City. Pennsylvania reported 1,004 measles cases across 39 counties, with five measles-associated deaths. The state expanded the pool of healthcare professionals authorized to administer measles vaccines. A Measles Dashboard was launched to track local risks and raise awareness. The emergency runs through November 4. The U.S. had reported 3,887 confirmed measles cases in 2026, with 3,869 from 47 jurisdictions. The CDC recommends two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine for protection. Kindergarten vaccination coverage declined to 92.4% in the 2025-2026 school year, below the 95% target, with lower coverage in some communities.",
