"account": "PHILADELPHIA (AP) — New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns expressed concern over the likelihood of securing a contract extension before the start of the regular season. The team's opening game against the 76ers and their celebratory banner-raising event on October 20th are less than two weeks away. At 31 years old, Towns is eligible for a four-year, $276 million contract. Currently, he earns $57 million this season and has a $61.1 million player option for the 2027-28 season. When asked about the possibility of negotiations lasting into the regular season, Towns stated, \"In this situation, there’s no comfortability to be had.\" The six-time All-Star averaged nearly 16 points and over 10 rebounds per game during the Knicks' first title run since 1973. Towns feels he deserves recognition for his contribution to the team's championship. Owner James Dolan has indicated that the Knicks will not enter the second spending period. Mitchell Robinson, a former teammate, left the team in free agency to join the Boston Celtics.",
