"account": "According to Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the killing of a woman by a US Marine on Okinawa represents a \"heinous crime\". She has urged the United States to conduct a \"thorough investigation\" and enforce \"strict discipline\" among US military personnel. Approximately 54,000 US military personnel, including 18,000 Marines, are stationed in Japan, with a majority based in Okinawa, an island that was under US control after World War II before being returned to Japan in 1972.\n\nCrimes such as rapes, assaults, hit-and-runs, and drunk-driving incidents by US personnel have been a source of ongoing protests on the island. The recent incident involves a 20-year-old Marine who has been arrested on suspicion of killing a 39-year-old woman at a hotel in Naha, the capital of Okinawa. He is also accused of stealing the woman's wallet. Police confirmed the woman's body was found in a hotel room, with signs suggesting she had been strangled.",
