"account": "On Monday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) revealed further information about arrest warrants issued for four Taliban leaders. The four men, accused of crimes against humanity, are accused of persecuting women, girls, and the LGBTQ+ community since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. The ICC issued warrants in July and September of last year against Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and Supreme Court head Abdul Hakim Haqqani. The other two warrants were issued in the same period against Education Minister Habibullah Agha and Minister of Higher Education Neda Mohammad Nadim. All four are charged with gender-based persecution and political persecution against those seen as allies of girls and women. The court stated that the Taliban have implemented policies leading to severe violations of fundamental rights and freedoms, including murder, imprisonment, torture, rape, and enforced disappearance. While the ICC cannot enforce the warrants, the move is seen as a form of pressure on the Afghan ruling authority. The Taliban have restricted women's access to education and jobs and barred them from public spaces, requiring women to cover their bodies in public, with a male relative accompanying them on long trips. Afghanistan's government spokesperson stated that the country does not recognize the ICC's authority, citing Islamic Sharia law and its courts as the only valid legal system.",
