"account": "Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL's all-time leading scorer, has officially announced his retirement from the league after the 2026-27 season. In a statement released through the Washington Capitals' social media channels, Ovechkin stated that he and his family have decided that this will be his final year in the NHL. The decision to retire comes after years of speculation and a noticeable decline in his on-ice performance. Ovechkin, while still one of the sport's premier goal-scorers, has shown limited value in other aspects of the game, particularly defensively. The Capitals' superstar sits 10 goals away from reaching Wayne Gretzky's record of 1,016 combined regular-season and postseason goals. Ovechkin informed his teammates of his retirement decision prior to the public release of the statement, hinting at an epic send-off as he concludes his illustrious career.",
