"summary": "World Teachers' Day 2026 has been marked by the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) with a strong call for the government to prioritize teacher welfare in Ghana. The coalition, representing the interests of pre-tertiary teachers, is currently engaged in industrial action due to concerns over conditions of service, promotions, financial obligations, and other issues affecting their welfare and working conditions. GNECC emphasizes the critical role teachers play in translating education policies into classroom practice, nurturing children's talents, and supporting national development, often under challenging circumstances in deprived and underserved communities. The coalition urges the government to accelerate negotiations with teacher unions, honor commitments, and ensure teacher welfare, professional development, and wellbeing are reflected in education planning and budgeting. They also stress the importance of continuous engagement between government and teachers to address concerns before they escalate into industrial action.",
