"account": "The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed disappointment over the Federal Government's failure to implement the special salary scale for teachers, as approved during the late President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. Speaking at the 2026 World Teachers Day address in Abuja, NUT National Deputy President Kizito Kalu emphasized that teachers deserve remuneration that reflects their responsibilities and the economic situation in the country. He lamented that four years have passed since the federal government approved the new salary regime in 2022, and it has yet to be put into effect. Kalu urged the government to initiate the implementation of the new pay scale, as it would improve teachers' morale and dignity. He also highlighted the need for better working conditions, as teachers cannot perform optimally in overcrowded classrooms with inadequate furniture and insufficient instructional materials. World Teachers Day has been celebrated annually since 1994, with the theme for 2026 being \"Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing the status and shaping our futures.\"",
