"account": "The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) may soon increase oversight of mobile package prices through its proposed power to regularly review and redefine relevant telecom markets. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has drafted the Telecommunication Competition Rules, 2026, which include this potential provision. The PTA could periodically assess telecom markets, redefining them when market conditions or industry trends warrant. Relevant telecom markets are defined as products, services or geographic areas identified by the authority for competition assessment. Factors considered in determining these markets include consumer demand, alternative service availability, substitution, pricing behavior, and technological advancements. The geographic scope of competition, entry barriers, network effects, and access conditions are also taken into account. This periodic review mechanism will allow the PTA to reassess telecom markets as technology, services, pricing patterns, and competitive conditions evolve.",
