"summary": "Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi, the leader of the Saudi-backed government, has announced the start of a major military operation to retake territory controlled by Iran-backed Houthis. In a televised address, al-Alimi said the goal is to extend the authority of the state and its institutions across the entire national territory.\n\nThe announcement comes as the Houthis have cut a vital supply road linking Taiz with Aden, the interim capital of the Saudi-backed government, according to security sources cited by AFP. The Houthis have taken control of the al-Safiya area, where they cut the main road and took control of the police station, effectively encircling Taiz city.\n\nThe Southern Transitional Council has declared readiness for mass mobilization to defend southern Yemen and its national project, following meetings in Aden, according to Ajel English.",
