"account": "Wiper Patriotic Party spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru has dismissed calls for opposition leaders to choose a presidential candidate during the burial of Martha Karua's father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua. Writing on X on October 4, Njiru stated that the decision to select the United Alternative Government's flag bearer should not be made at a funeral. This came after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina urged opposition leaders to set aside their differences and agree on a single candidate to face President William Ruto in 2027. Maina told mourners that if it meant facing off in a room to agree on a candidate, that was acceptable. However, Njiru emphasized that the selection of the presidential candidate must be done separately from the funeral. Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also voiced support for opposition unity, warning against undermining the political project from within. While the burial was primarily a moment to mourn and celebrate Mwalimu Karua's life, it also brought together senior political figures and highlighted the ongoing debate over opposition leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.",
