"account": "On the second day of targeted strikes, Russian drones hit a major bridge in Kyiv, the Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge, on Sunday morning. This attack followed a previous strike on Saturday, which injured two people and caused damage to the road surface and overhead trolleybus wires, as reported by Kyiv Major Vitali Klitschko. Additionally, the latest strike damaged a heating main, leading to a temporary shortage of hot water in the Desnyanskyi district. Unverified footage shows vehicles moving across the bridge as a drone crashes into it, triggering an explosion that creates a cloud of black smoke.\n\nThe Pivnichnyi Bridge connects Kyiv's western and eastern parts and had not been targeted before Thursday. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Russia's attacks were a response to Ukraine's strikes on Russian energy facilities, despite Moscow initiating such attacks in 2022. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made an unexpected visit to Kyiv, reaffirming Germany's support for Ukraine and pledging further assistance, including bolstering Ukrainian air defences. Merz emphasized that Germany's security also depended on the outcome of the war, stating that Germany was helping out of its own self-interest.",
