"summary": "Christa Pike, a 50-year-old woman from Tennessee, recently survived a botched execution attempt after receiving two doses of pentobarbital. According to the Gulf News, she was taken to a hospital where she was critically ill, unconscious, and on a ventilator as medical staff worked to clear the pentobarbital from her system. Her lawyers are seeking to have her death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.\n\nThe execution attempt has led to significant fallout, with Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada resigning this month, as announced by Governor Bill Lee. The governor has also halted further executions pending a third-party review, led by former US Attorney Ed Stanton, into what went wrong during Pike's execution attempt. Strada defended the state's execution process, stating that he believed Tennessee \"carried out its responsibilities in accordance with the established protocol.\"\n\nChrista Pike's biological mother is Carissa Hansen, and there is renewed interest in Pike's life, including her family, following the failed execution. As of Thursday, Pike remained hospitalized and on a ventilator in a Nashville hospital, according to a court filing from her attorneys. Her lawyers have welcomed Strada's departure but argue that it \"does nothing to help Christa now,\" citing a \"systemic failure that goes far beyond any one person.\"",
