"account": "Salt Lake City, Utah - On October 3rd, 2026, UFC 332 took place, one of those low-key events that garnered little anticipation but exceeded expectations. The night was marked by numerous records shattered: an unprecedented 11 knockouts, nine first-round knockouts, and a staggering 16 knockdowns. However, the main event, featuring Natalia Silva and Wang Cong for the vacant women’s flyweight title, failed to live up to the hype. Fans were left disappointed, booing and exiting the arena early. While not devoid of merit, the bout itself was lackluster, marked by Wang's persistent clinch-fighting and Silva's premature ascension to the mount. Silva claimed victory, but it wasn't enough to elevate her standing in the UFC's women's division. Recent bouts, such as Ailin Perez vs. Norma Dumont, Mackenzie Dern's title defense, and Gillian Robertson vs. Robertson, have been underwhelming. Valentina Shevchenko's title relinquishment due to injury was anticipated to be a spark for her division, but this fight proved dull, casting a shadow over Silva vs. Wang as a potential revitalizer. Amidst an otherwise positive slate, featuring Alexa Grasso vs. Manon Fiorot and Casey O’Neill's swift finishes, the women's MMA division grapples with a pervasive sense of ennui. The fan base is increasingly disillusioned, and one wonders if this trend can be reversed. Historical parallels to flyweight and lightweight divisions, once considered dull, offer hope. But the key to lifting women’s MMA out of its slump may lie in high-impact bouts featuring returning stars like Amanda Nunes, fresh competition from athletes such as Zhang Weili, and strategic matchmakers who can craft compelling narratives within the octagon. Until then, the reputation of women's MMA may continue to wane.",
