"account": "John Boadu, the 56-year-old former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, has been elected as the National Chairman of the party at the National Delegates Conference held in Kumasi. The chairmanship election took place on Saturday, October 3, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Boadu emerged victorious among four candidates, including Paul Afoko, Boakye Agyarko, and Sammy Crabbe. His triumph was celebrated by supporters at the congress grounds, with excitement palpable over his win.\n\nBoadu's election followed a last-minute alliance with former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe, who endorsed Boadu and encouraged his supporters to vote for him. The chairmanship contest was one of nine elections to select national officers of the NPP, with over 7,000 delegates participating in the conference. The elections followed the approval of amendments to the party’s constitution, which included changes to the position of party leader while the NPP is in opposition.\n\nPrior to his election, Boadu served as General Secretary of the NPP from 2018 to 2022. His new role as National Chairman is anticipated to play a crucial part in the NPP’s reorganization and rebuilding of its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.",
